WEST LAKE MUN 2016

About

10 Years of West Lake MUN!

As the Secretariat of West Lake MUN, we would like to take the time to welcome to you to the 10th edition of West Lake MUN, which will take place from November 11th - November 13th, 2016 at Hangzhou International School. This year, we strive to maintain the authenticity of debate and the professionalism of the conference staff while creating an intellectual atmosphere for all delegates. With this conference turning 10 and the G20 Summit just having passed, the atmosphere is as exciting as ever to dive into another school year of Model UN.

In the past 10 years we have grown as an organization, constantly building up from feedback to improve the overall experience of West Lake MUN. And once again, we are coming back with more improvements to the quality of our conference. While the size of our conference has expanded, we have also increased the number of small-size forums in order to provide the delegates with more opportunities to participate. This will further enhance our conference as a stepping stone to further guide delegates into the world of MUN.

The theme of our conference rests on three closely related words- “Action, Empower, Change”. While change is an occurrence resulted by the actions taken, every action is empowered by the goal to make the world a better place. At Westlake MUN, we strive to create an atmosphere where all delegates have the opportunities to express their thoughts on various issues and are empowered to take actions in their own daily lives.

People say that the world is a dangerous place. With terrorist organisations rapidly expanding territory, with people using chemical bombs to fight one another, and with half the world living in total insecurity of their lives, yes it undoubtedly is. However as it is known, "the world is a dangerous place, not because of those who do evil, but because of those who look and do nothing”. The difficulties we currently face are more than complicated and indeed will require effort and dedication over a long period of time. Although we have a long way to go, it is said that “even a journey of a million miles begins with a single step”—and our goal here at Westlake MUN is to provide all delegates with the first guiding step to support their journey in shaping our world.

We hope to see you in November, young leaders, and get ready for an unforgettable experience of meeting new people, engaging in diplomatic dialogue, and proposing new, innovative, and creative solutions to the issues we face as humanity.
